The cutting links of a chainsaw chain are subject to natural dulling during operation. This process takes place at different rates - depending on the working conditions of the chain. Therefore, it is impossible to clearly determine after how long our chain will need sharpening.
A saw equipped with a properly sharpened chain cuts under its own weight, and the chip cut by the cutting links is thick and regular. If the operator has to exert more and more pressure on the chainsaw handles while cutting and the regular coarse chip becomes finer and finer, more and more wood dust appears - this means that the chain needs sharpening.
A properly sharpened chain should cut through a log with a diameter of 25 cm in 10 seconds. Also in this way we can determine the condition of the chain of our chainsaw.
