How to make organic fertilizer with your own hands without using chemicals?

If you are interested in organic gardening and plant care, you may have heard about the production of organic fertilizer. It is a liquid stimulant obtained by fermenting plant material in water. This process creates a rich source of nutrients that can be used to water vegetables, flowers or other plants in the garden. How to do it?

Start by collecting plant material. You can use nettles, grass clippings from the lawnmower, other green plant parts or other available plant waste. It is important to choose plants that have not been treated with pesticides or herbicides to avoid transferring harmful substances to food.

  • Break plant material into smaller pieces. This will facilitate decomposition and fermentation.
  • Fill a large container (such as a bucket) about two-thirds with plant material. Note that the material will decompose and reduce in volume during fermentation.
  • Add water to the container so that the plant material is completely submerged. Water should cover the material for at least 5 cm.
  • Cover the container with a lid or strainer to prevent access by insects.
  • Place the container in a sunny place where the temperature is about 20-30°C. This temperature promotes faster fermentation.
  • Regularly check and mix the contents of the container. It should be slightly frothy and have the characteristic smell of fermentation. This means that it is proceeding properly. Stirring will help evenly distribute the nutrients and speed up the process.
  • Allow the fertilizer to ferment for about 2-3 weeks. During this time, a nutrient-rich liquid should be produced. You will know the end of fermentation when bubbles stop forming in the liquid.
  • After 2-3 weeks, strain the fertilizer through a sieve or cloth to separate the solids from the liquid. This will give you a pure liquid fertilizer.
  • Liquid fertilizer can be used to water plants in the garden. Dilute it in a ratio of 1:10 with water and water your plants once a month.

Note that the fertilizer prepared in this way is highly concentrated, so it is important to follow the recommended dosages. Too strong a concentration can burn plant roots. Homemade fertilizer can also be used as an additive to compost or plants in greenhouses and pots.

Making fertilizers yourself is a great way to use natural resources and provide plants with a healthy and nutrient-rich environment. However, it should be taken into account that the fermentation process may have a peculiar smell, so it is better to place the container in a suitable place in the garden, away from residential areas.

Try this method of caring for your plants and give them the right conditions to mature without chemical fertilizers. Organic fertilization will certainly have a positive impact on the quality and taste of the vegetables grown.
