AIR FILTER B&S 18-22 INTEK R140429 - PROFESSIONAL PROTECTION FOR BRIGGS & STRATTON ENGINES

B&S 18-22 Intek air filter

no. 499486S

What is the B&S 18-22 Intek R140429 air filter and why it is crucial for your engine?

B&S 18-22 Intek air filter R140429 is a high quality filter element designed for Briggs & Stratton Intek series engines in the 18-22 hp range. Its task is to effectively clean the air sucked into the combustion chamber from dust, dust, grass, sand and other impurities that can cause accelerated wear of engine components. The filter is made of a precisely pleated, dense paper medium embedded in a durable, warp-resistant plastic frame.

Thanks to the use of a dedicated air filter, the internal combustion engine operates with optimal power and full efficiency, maintaining the proper parameters of the fuel-air mixture. This directly translates into lower fuel consumption, easier starting, lower emissions and a significant extension of the life of the entire drive unit.

Model R140429 is equivalent to the original Briggs & Stratton filter with part number 499486S, which guarantees a perfect dimensional match and performance compliance with the requirements of the engine manufacturer.

Where the B&S 18-22 Intek R140429 air filter is installed?

B&S 18-22 Intek air filter R140429 is mounted in the air filter housing on the top or side of the Briggs & Stratton Intek series engine. The housing is most often located in an easily accessible place - after removing a few screws or unfastening the latches, you can quickly remove the used cartridge and insert a new one. The filter cartridge is designed in such a way that its replacement is possible without the use of specialized tools, making it easy to carry out basic maintenance for both professional and amateur users.

Typical applications of this filter are:

  • engines installed in garden tractors and riding mowers,
  • briggs & Stratton Intek 18-22 hp horizontal and vertical engines in garden machinery,
  • drive units used in municipal and professional landscaping equipment.

A properly installed air filter ensures a tight connection with the housing and intake port, so that only properly filtered air enters the engine. This is especially important in dusty conditions, when mowing dry grass, weeding or working on sandy, dry ground.

Use of B&S 18-22 Intek R140429 air filter in daily operation

B&S 18-22 Intek air filter R140429 is used in many popular garden and municipal equipment. It is most commonly used in:

  • garden tractors - provides stable power when mowing large areas of lawns and recreational areas,
  • ride-on mowers - Protects the engine during prolonged operation in dust and floating grass particles,
  • professional greenery machines - including scarifiers, aerators or sweepers powered by Briggs & Stratton Intek engines.

In daily use, the filter performs well during:

  • regular mowing of the home lawn - guarantees a light start and even engine operation from spring to autumn,
  • intensive work in service companies - where machines operate for several hours a day in demanding field conditions,
  • seasonal mowing of meadows, orchards or allotments - reduces the risk of aspiration of larger dust particles and organic debris.

Changing the air filter regularly increases the reliability of the unit, reduces service downtime and minimizes the risk of costly engine repairs due to contaminants entering the cylinder.

Briggs & Stratton Intek 18-22 hp air filter R140429 - key user benefits

Briggs & Stratton Intek 18-22 hp R140429 air filter is designed to maximize engine protection while keeping air flowing freely. The main benefits of its use are:

  • Optimal engine performance - The precisely pleated filter surface guarantees a high flow of clean air, allowing the engine to reach its full working power. This is felt especially when mowing dense, tall grass, when the drive unit does not "choke" and maintains a stable rpm.
  • Protection against mechanical wear and tear - retention of dust and microscopic dirt particles prevents scratches and accelerated wear of the cylinder, piston and rings. In practice, this means longer engine life and less expenditure on repairs.
  • Lower fuel consumption and cleaner operation - proper supply of clean air influences efficient combustion of the fuel mixture. The machine uses less gasoline, generates fewer exhaust fumes and runs more evenly, which will be especially appreciated by users who use the equipment for many hours a day.

For example, the user of a garden tractor equipped with a Briggs & Stratton Intek engine, regularly replacing the R140429 air filter with a new one, can count on trouble-free starting after winter, no sudden drops in power during mowing, and reduced unpleasant smoke from the muffler.

Quality, durability and reliability of B&S 18-22 Intek air filter R140429

B&S 18-22 Intek R140429 air filter is made of high-quality materials that meet the requirements of internal combustion engine manufacturers. The dense pleated filter paper provides a large working area in a compact size, while the sturdy, sealed plastic frame allows it to retain its shape even under prolonged use in changing weather conditions.

Key advantages related to durability and reliability:

  • stable construction resistant to vibrations and shocks typical of tractor and mower operation,
  • resistance to moisture and dirt - the filter retains its properties even when working in wet grass,
  • precise fit with the air filter housing - minimizes the risk of bypassing contaminated air by shortcuts.

In practice, this means that the user can count on reproducible filtration quality throughout the life of the cartridge. With proper maintenance of the device and replacement of the filter according to service recommendations, the engine retains its performance for many seasons, and the risk of failure due to contamination is significantly reduced.

How to take care of B&S 18-22 Intek R140429 air filter to keep your engine running longer?

Proper operation of the air filter has a direct impact on the life of the engine. For the B&S 18-22 Intek R140429, it is recommended that the condition of the cartridge be checked regularly - especially during periods of heavy machine use.

Basic operational recommendations:

  • checking the condition of the filter every 25 hours of operation, or more often if the device is used in a very dusty environment,
  • changing the filter every season or as recommended by the engine manufacturer,
  • do not wash the paper filter in water or gasoline - this can damage the filter medium and reduce the effectiveness of filtration,
  • gentle cleaning of loose dust with compressed air (from a sufficient distance) can help extend the service life, but it is not a substitute for regular replacement with a new cartridge.

For example, the owner of a garden tractor used regularly on a large plot may adopt a policy of changing the air filter at the beginning of each mowing season. This ensures that the engine starts the season in ideal operating conditions, minimizing the risk of failure during the most intensive period.
